The Sacremento Kings have moved around more than any other NBA franchise. They started out as the Rochester Royals from 1949-1957, Cincinnati Royals from 1958-1972, the Kansas City-Omaha Kings from 1973-1975, the Kansas City Kings from 1976-1985, and finally they stopped in Sacremento in 1986. They were one of the most dominant teams in the 40's and early 50's, competing easily against George Mikan's Lakers. The team was led by the best point guard of the NBA back then, Bob Davies, and well known center Arnie Risen. The duo won the team's one and only title in 1951. When they left, Maurice Stokes and Jack Twyman came in to take the reins. The Royals then moved to Cincinatti for a better market. The team improved instantly with Stokes and his amazing all-around play. But a head injury to Stokes that ended his career struck and the team suddenly began struggling. Until they drafted Oscar Robertson in 1960. The team improved by 14 wins his first season. And then in his second season, he amazingly averaged a triple double, ending a seven year drought where the Royals didn't have a winning season. They continued to do well under Robertson, but without a good supporting cast, they couldn't compete. In 1970, Robertson left, but another star player came along. His name was Nate Archibald. He kept the Kansas City Kings competitive in the Midwest Division with his pin point passing and profilic scoring. When he left, the Kings fell in a huge 20 year slump where they either didn't qualify for the playoffs or got knocked out in the first round. In 2001, with Chris Webber, the Kings got the closest to the finals since 1951 when they lost in the Western Conference Finals. Their overall record is 2351-2707 (.465). Their best season was their 1948-1949 season where they grabbed 45-15 (.750) and their worst season was their 2008-2009 season where they got 17-65 (.207). They have retired ten jersey numbers. 1 (Nate Archibald), 2 (Mitch Richmond), 4 (Chris Webber), 6 (Sixthman, the fans), 11 (Bob Davies), 12 (Maurice Stokes), 14 (Oscar Robertson), 21 (Vlade Divac), 27 (Jack Twyman), and 44 (Sam Lacey).
