The Minnesota Timberwolves are a relatively new franchise and joined the NBA in 1989, the first NBA team in Minnesota since the Minneapolis Lakers left to LA in 1960. The team drew well over 1,000,000 fans, but didn't have the skills on the court to show for it. In fact, they didn't win more than 30 games until Kevin Garnett was drafted by the team straight out of high school. Garnett was critized heavily for not going to college, as he averaged only 10.4 PPG his rookie season. By 1997, the team had aquired Stephon Marbury, which complemented Garnett, and the team made the playoffs for the first time despite not having a winning record. From 1997-2003, the Timberwolves always had a winning season, but struggled in the post season, taking first round exits every time. Finally in 2004, with the addition of guard Latrell Spreewell, they made it past the first round and made it to the Western Conference Finals but lost to the Lakers. That season would also be the last time the team made the playoffs. Anyways, Garnett was traded to the Celtics in 2007 and the team hasn't made the playoffs or had a winning season since. The emergence of Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio should change that though. Their overall record is 743-1116 (.400). Their best season was their 2003-2004 season where they got a 58-24 (.707) record and their worst seasons were their 1991-1992 and 2009-2010 season where they got a 15-67 (.183) record. They've retired one jersey number. 2 (Malik Sealy).
