The Chicago Bulls were the third NBA team to be based in Chicago, and frankly, the only successful one. They started out as an expansion franchise in 1966, where they were led by Johnny "Red" Kerr and Bob Boozer. Jerry Sloan and Bob Love joined by 1970 and the team enjoyed four 50+ win seasons in a row. The team suffered with multiple injuries, but obtained star center Artis Gilmore from the ABA Dispersal Draft. Gilmore could not lead the team to its earlier success though. The late 70's and early 80's were consistent dissapointments too. If it weren't for a coin flip in 1979, the Bulls would have changed their fortunes forever, but they lost the flip and ended up losing Magic Johnson to the Lakers. The Bulls would get an even bigger prize in 1984, Michael Jordan. Jordan is consistently ranked as the greatest basketball player of time, and his stats show it. The team didn't get their first winning season with Jordan until 1988, when Horace Grant and Scottie Pippen joined the team. The trio won 3 NBA titles and notched six 50+ win seasons during the time they were together. Grant was traded in 1994, and Jordan retired the year before, but the Bulls barely slowed down. Sure, they didn't go to the finals, but they still had excellent regular seasons. In 1996, the Bulls exploded as Jordan came out of retirement and led the team to a record breaking 72-10 record and winning the title. The Bulls would win the next two titles also, accomplishing 2 "three-peats". Their coach decided the team was getting too old though, so he split it up, trading Pippen, while Jordan retired again. This led to a rapid decline, and the team didn't make the playoffs for the next 6 years. The team is rapidly recovering, now having star point guard Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, and Joakim Noah. The Bulls have an all time record of 1938-1800 (.518). Their most succesful season was their 1995-1996 season, where they decimated the league by getting a jaw-dropping 72-10 (.878) record, which is the NBA record for most wins in a season. Of course, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman were leading the way. Their worst season came 5 years later when they ended up with a pitiful 15-67 record, with their 3 major stars gone. They've retired 4 players, 1 GM, and 1 coach. 4 (Jerry Sloan), 10 (Bob Love), 23 (Michael Jordan), 33 (Scottie Pippen), coach Phil Jackson, and general manager Jerry Krause.
