Basketball has emerged to become one of the most popular sports in the word. From its humble beginnings to the emergenge of the NBA, basketball has changed a lot since its creation in 1876. You see, basketball was created by Dr. James A. Naismith, a director of the Springfield, MA YMCA. He set 13 original rules, 12 of which are still in use. The only rule that was changed was the number of players on the court. Originally, it was 9 people on each team, but now its reduced to 5. By the 1920's proffesional barnstorming teams developed, colleges started playing, and there was even a proffesional league called the "National League" created. It failed and later merged with the B.A.A (Basketball Association of America) to become the NBA. At first, most teams were located in the East, but as time passed, teams moved West, and today, there is an even distribution all over the country. NBA games are even broadcasted around the world today.
