Ahh, the Boston Celtics, basketball's greatest proffesional team. 27 Hall of Famers have played and/or coached the team. They have won 17 titles (the record), including 8 in a row from 1959-1966. Their success came from Red Auerbach's genius coaching. In the late 50's and 60's he put together a devestating roster, with an excellent all-round bench and unselfish play. The roster included Bill Russell (Won 11 titles with the Celtics!), Bill Sharman, Bob Cousy, Tom Heinsohn, John Havlicek, to name a few of its immensely talented players. Then in the 80's came the Big 3 (Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parish) who won 3 titles. Their overall record is 3076-2092 (.595) and their best season was their 1972-1973 season where they managed 68-14 (.829) and their worst season was their 1996-1997 season where they racked up an embarrasing 15-67 (.183) record, a new low for the team. They have retired 23 numbers. 0 (Robert Parish), 1 (Walter Brown), 2 (Red Auerbach), 3 (Dennis Johnson), 6 (Bill Russell), 10 (Jo Jo White), 14 (Bob Cousy), 15 (Tom Heinsohn), 16 (Satch Sanders), 17 (John Havlicek), 18 (Dave Cowens), 19 (Don Nelson), 21 (Bill Sharman), 22 (Ed Macauly), 23 (Frank Ramsey), 24 (Sam Jones), 25 (K.C. Jones), 31 (Cedric Maxwell), 32 (Kevin McHale), 33 (Larry Bird), 35 (Reggie Lewis), a microphone for broadcaster Johnny Most, and LOSCY for Jim Loscutoff.
